The last thing you want to when you stamp hard on the pedals (or wack a log) is the chain to give-up. The DHS-9 offers up to 20% more strength than a standard 9spd chain. The bottom part of the outer chain plate is chamfered in much the same way as a normal 9speed chain (allowing regular gear shift pick-up), however, the upper part of the chain plate is bigger than normal. The bigger surface area plate increases the tensile strength and strike endurance of the chain. Special heat treatment after riveting increases the pin’s integrity with the plates, making the chain stronger.
