The XCX is a seat tube mounted version of the currently successful XC.BB e*thirteen 1x9/1x10 cross country race guide. It is designed to be mounted to any frame that is capable of using a standard front derailleur mounting style.
The high-mount may be more popular since high-clamp front derailleur mounting is more popular, but the low-mount version has it's place and may be more suitable in cases where water bottle cage mounting bolts may potentially be interfere with by the high-mount XCX design. The chainline is adjusted via a plastic eccentric seat tube shim.
There are three shims included with each retail packaged XCX.ST guide kit - for adapting to a 28.6mm, 31.8mm or 34.9mm outer seat tube diameter.
The two bolts used in the XCX.ST kit, the upper slider bolt and seat tube clamp bolt, are both gold anodised aluminium as usual (though it may not show this in the picture). These guide kits are retail packaged in rectangular boxes and of course include installation instructions.
The pricing may seem a bit high relative to the XCX.BB that you are currently familiar with but the manufacturing cost is much higher as well. Once you have had a chance to get an XCX.ST guide in your hands the quality of the final product will be apparent - nothing on the market comes close to mimicking the quality and reliability of the XCX.ST product.
Though we understand that this product will most likely be replacing parts already equipped on customer's bikes (and is therefore an additional expense) it is easily justifiable when considering the simplicity of the final drivetrain set-up and riding experience. Additionally, the rider is removing a left shifter, front derailleur, cables/housing, outer and inner front chainring and associated hardware - the weigh savings can often he more than 1/2 to 3/4 lbs. (.22kg to .34kg)
The "1x9" and "1x10" speed popularity is more than a passing fad in the cycling industry. Many riders have made the commitment to simplify their bikes, and with our odd sized front chainrings it helps to add rider-specific customisation to the options. In the United States we are currently seeing a large push of the 1x9 & 1x10 set-up by top level Pro XC racers, 29er riders/racers and even on bakes with as much as 6" (150-160mm) of rear suspension travel. With the advent of much lighter components these days it is possible to build a 6" travel XC race bike that weighs less than 24 lbs. (10.88kg) - and the XCX guide models help achieve this
